On Ukraine’s Independence Day, we honour a nation defending its freedom under barbaric Russian attacks. Your sovereignty is not negotiable. Your fight, to live free from aggression, is our fight. We stand with you. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦
I am saddened to learn of the passing of Siim Kallas. He was a dedicated European statesman. Over the years, I had the privilege of meeting him on numerous occasions, and I will remember him for many things. From inviting me on a bike ride through the beautiful Estonian countrys…
My deepest condolences on the passing of Senator @LindseyGrahamSC. Our contacts go back many years, and I remember our meetings in Washington, D.C., with great respect.  He was a steadfast supporter of American global leadership and a free Ukraine.  My thoughts are with his fa…
Two hundred and fifty years ago, a republic was born on the proposition that liberty could outlast empire. The United States became the leader of the free world. It has deeply inspired my life in politics. But the question now is not what America has been. It is whether Americ…
Ukraine today is militarily the strongest nation in Europe. It’s battle tested, battle hardened. Usually we look at Ukraine as a country that needs our help. That is still right, but we should look at Ukraine as an asset, a country that can actually contribute to European secur…
Are we seriously going to allow balloons from Belarus to affect airspace in a European Union and NATO nation?  Like with the Russian drone incursions, we must shoot them down.  The best deterrent is action that sends a clear message.  Solidarity with Lithuania.
Moldova has again chosen the European path – despite Russia’s attempted interference.   Now Europe must step up momentum to bring Moldova into the EU family.   When democracies fight for their freedom, we must stand with them - concretely and urgently.
Russian drones enter our skies. We complain. They return. We delay. They escalate. We hesitate. Enough. Ahead of this week’s EU meeting with Ukraine, Europe needs a drone wall - now. Because if we don’t stop Moscow’s tests, one day they won’t be tests.
Russia’s strike on government buildings in Ukraine shows Europe needs to act now. Putin acts with impunity while the West is lost in deliberations.  We have the means to shoot down Russian drones and strike their factories - what are we waiting for?
Putin is not interested in peace. Today’s Palm Sunday attacks on civilians are yet more proof. There must be consequences. Ukraine’s allies must lift restrictions, deliver new weapons, and strengthen Ukraine’s negotiating hand.
President @ZelenskyyUA is one of history's great wartime leaders. When this war comes to an end, his name will be mentioned in the same breath as Churchill. The democratic world owes him a very great deal—and we must all stand with him today.
The Georgian authorities increasing violence against protestors and journalists must have consequences.   We stand with all those fighting for a democratic and European future.
The news of vote rigging and violence around the polling stations in #Georgia yesterday are extremely alarming.   We must stand with all those in Georgia who believe in a European future free from Russia’s malign influence.   Georgia is Europe.
“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” That is why we must stand up for all those around the world fighting for a democratic future. My message as @AoDemocracies founder on International Day of Democracy -
Today is Ukrainian Independence Day. It is a moment to celebrate the spirit of the Ukrainian people. The democratic world must step up support for Ukraine. We must give them all they need to win this war and set out a clear path to EU and NATO membership. Slava Ukraini!
Armenia is pivoting away from Russia and towards the West—to a future of deeper ties with Europe. Today’s decision by the EU Foreign Affairs Council to provide European Peace Facility funding to Armenia and to work towards visa liberalisation is excellent and important news.
Congratulations to my friend @kajakallas on being nominated as the new EU foreign policy chief. As PM, you were a thorn in the side of the world’s dictators and a resolute supporter of Ukraine’s fight for freedom. I look forward to working with you over the coming years.
Congratulations @MinPres on becoming the next NATO Secretary General. NATO has been the bedrock of our security for 75 years. At a dangerous moment, I can’t think of a better leader to guide the Alliance through these troubled waters. I wish you all the best for your term.
Putin’s visit to his North Korean arms dealer shows that the Axis of Autocracies is closer than ever before.   It’s time we give Ukraine what they need to win—not just survive. It's time to show Putin and his autocratic allies that democracies are more united than dictators.
Bringing Ukraine into NATO is the only way to guarantee long-term peace and stability in Europe.   It was a pleasure to talk to @NPR yesterday on why NATO should open accession talks with Ukraine at the Washington D.C. Summit in July.
Putin marked his sham rubber-stamp “election” by saying that it would be “ridiculous” to end his war when Ukraine is “running out of ammunition.” We must give Ukraine the weapons it needs to defeat Putin. Democracy is dead in Russia, but we cannot let it die in Ukraine.
We cannot let Putin win. That must be the main takeaway from this year’s Munich Security Conference. We must redouble our efforts, to deliver a Ukrainian victory and lay the foundations for a sustainable peace.
Congratulations @alexstubb on your victory in the Finnish Presidential election. You were one of the first to recognize the full threat of a neo-imperialist Russia. With you at the helm, a militarily strong Finland will play a central role at the heart of NATO.
10 years ago, tens of thousands of Ukrainians took to the streets to protest corruption and Russian manipulation. The Maidan demonstrators were fighting for Ukraine's democratic and European future. It is a fight that continues. We must ensure they succeed. Slava Ukraini!
For Ukraine to win the war against Russia’s brutal invasion, it needs two things: long-term military support from allies and a clear path to both EU and NATO membership.
The images of refugees fleeing Nagorno-Karabakh are a failure of the international community. For months warnings of ethnic cleansing were ignored. Now it has happened. The world must stand with democratic Armenia and give all the humanitarian support needed.
Ukraine will win this war. However, our hesitation to supply heavy weapons allowed Russia to fortify its defences in eastern and southern Ukraine. We must not make the same mistake again. We must give Ukraine all it needs to kick out the invaders, without exception. @LBCNews
July's NATO summit is the most important in recent history. It is appropriate Lithuania is hosting, as they have led the way in standing up to dictators. NATO leaders must be bold, on Ukraine's NATO membership and security guarantees. Watch my interview tonight on LRT.
