It was a pleasure meeting H.E. @anwaribrahim (@MalaysiaPMO). I thanked the Prime Minister for his commitment to advancing #HealthForAll in #Malaysia under the MADANI framework, and for hosting the WHO Global Service Centre, which supports our global operations.
We discussed Malaysia’s commitment to increasing financing for its national health programme, as well as strong action to protect people’s health from tobacco and vaping products.
On global health, we discussed Malaysia’s leadership in promoting lung health by addressing, in a holistic way, both communicable and noncommunicable drivers of lung disease. This was reflected in last year’s World Health Assembly resolution championed by Malaysia calling for a coordinated response to lung cancer, COPD, asthma, tuberculosis and other lung diseases.
Malaysia has also played a constructive role in negotiating the Pathogen Access and Benefits Sharing annex of the WHO Pandemic Agreement, helping to advance equitable access to vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics in future pandemics.
