Mohamad Safa, a UN representative for the international NGO Patriotic Vision Association, says he resigned from his position on Friday, accusing senior UN officials of “serving a powerful lobby” and “censoring” him.
Safa, who holds UN accreditation in Geneva, Vienna, and New York, accused “senior officials and influential diplomats” of deploying a “misinformation campaign claiming an Iran nuclear threat” and of trying to “sow pro-war sentiments.”
“I cannot in good conscience be part of what is happening at a time when top UN officials refuse to describe what is happening in Gaza as genocide, what is happening in Lebanon as war crimes and ethnic cleansing, and that the war on Iran is illegal under international law (…) All due to pressure from a powerful lobby,” Safa wrote.
“I have received death threats against me and my family, and the UN has abandoned me,” Safa added. “Now I am being censored at the UN (…) by senior officials who abuse their power to serve that lobby.”
