Earlier today, I assented to the Guyana Development Bank Act 2026, following its passage in the National Assembly last Monday. This landmark legislation establishes the Guyana Development Bank and provides the legal, institutional, and administrative framework within which the Bank will operate.
The enactment of this legislation marks another important step in our commitment to empowering Guyanese entrepreneurs and expanding access to opportunity. Through the Guyana Development Bank, small and medium-sized enterprises across a wide range of sectors will have access to loans of up to $3 million without the need for collateral and free of interest.
Beyond financing, the Bank will provide critical technical and advisory support to small businesses, helping entrepreneurs prepare sound business plans, strengthen financial management, and build sustainable enterprises capable of eventually accessing financing from the formal banking system.
