I have no difficulty with a trade union standing up to the Government I lead. If that is what the interests of workers require, then that is what it must do. It was an honour to deliver the inaugural Patrick Frost Memorial Lecture for CTUSAB and to speak plainly about our responsibility to the working people of this country. We cannot claim to put workers first and then take offence when their union speaks up for them. That independence must be respected, whoever is in office. I say so without fear of contradiction.
