Public service asks something of us. It asks that we put people first, that we act with integrity and that our commitment to country be greater than any desire for recognition. Erskine Roosevelt Griffith understood that responsibility. From humble beginnings, this son of the soil rose to become one of Barbados’ most respected public servants, guided by a sense of duty that went beyond political allegiance. His life reminds us that our institutions depend on the character and commitment of those who serve within them. The titles will pass. What must endure is the difference we make in people’s lives and the standard we leave for those coming after us. To his family and loved ones, I extend my deepest condolences. Thank you for sharing him with Barbados. Our country owes him a debt of gratitude for his faithful service. May his soul rest in peace and rise in glory.
