Yesterday and today, I spoke with my brother, President Irfaan Ali @presidentaligy as Guyana confronts the deepening tragedy of the MV Barima.
The latest news is devastating. 27 lives have been lost, including at least four children. 69 people have been rescued, while 83 remain unaccounted for as the search continues. Behind every number is a family grieving, waiting and praying.
I conveyed to President Ali the love, prayers and solidarity of the Government and people of Barbados. Our hearts are with those mourning an unimaginable loss, with every family still awaiting word, and with the survivors who must now carry the weight of what they have endured.
We salute the rescue teams, fisherfolk, medical personnel and all those who have worked without pause since this tragedy began. I assured President Ali that Barbados stands ready to offer whatever support Guyana may need.
Guyana is family. In this hour of profound sorrow, Barbados stands with you.
