Today marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11. We remember all those whose lives were lost and shattered that day. And we honour the bravery of first responders, many of whom are still battling illnesses and campaigning for their right to healthcare. What followed was…
Sanctions against settlement goods are welcome, but they must only be a first step. Britain must end all military cooperation, all intelligence sharing, and all forms of complicity in Israel’s apartheid, occupation and genocide.
We need urgent action to end the housing crisis, including building more council houses and bringing in rent controls. Today’s national demonstration in Parliament Square is just the start of the campaign for justice for renters and those in desperate need of affordable housing.
My statement on Israel's decision to ban me and 10 other British MPs from entry. "I have visited all parts of Palestine on several occasions, where I have witnessed the horrors of occupation, as well as the resilience and humanity of the Palestinian people. They are the ones w…
Sanctions on illegal settlements are welcome, but not enough. Britain must end all arms sales, all military cooperation, and all forms of support that sustain Israel’s system of apartheid, occupation and genocide.
Today marks 50 days since Andy Burnham took office. I have written to him to demand that he finally recognises the genocide in Gaza, imposes a full arms embargo, and establishes a public inquiry into Britain's complicity in crimes against humanity.
Today, I asked the government to take action to stop the growth of the far-right. This seemed to upset the Reform MPs in front of me.
This week, my Gaza (Public Inquiry) Bill returns to Parliament. This Bill would establish a full investigation into Britain’s complicity in genocide. The last Prime Minister blocked our efforts to uncover the truth. Will the new Prime Minister do the same?
"Every 12 year old who has a phone can see that war crimes are being carried out." Thank you to @nevegordon, Shahd Hammouri and @PlutoPress for a sobering conversation about our new book, ‘The Gaza Tribunal: Britain’s Complicity in Genocide’.
Israel has been committing genocide against the Palestinian people. Piecemeal sanctions against settlement goods or individual ministers won't cut it. Britain must end all trade, all arms sales, and all support for Israel's economy of occupation, apartheid and genocide.
Today, I asked Andy Burnham if he would bring in rent controls to alleviate the unbelievable levels of stress faced by private renters across this country.
I had a lovely time celebrating the 50th anniversary of Caxton House, a wonderful community centre in my constituency. Thank you for all you do. One of the many reasons I am proud to be the MP for Islington North!
The level of destruction in Nepal is absolutely devastating. My thoughts go out to all those who have lost loved ones & to rescuers risking their lives to help others. All possible aid must be sent to save lives & to show survivors of this catastrophe that they are not…
For 37 years, privatised water companies have fleeced customers and poisoned our supply whilst extracting £88bn+ in dividends. Privatisation is a scam. It is absurd that successive governments have allowed this farce to continue. Put water into democratic public ownership, now.
Israel has said that paper kites flown by Palestinian children will be treated as weapons of war. Read that again. This is the reality of genocide: the total destruction of innocence, freedom and joy. End all military cooperation with Israel, now.
We are immensely grateful to Sally Rooney for writing a stunning afterword for ‘The Gaza Tribunal: Britain’s Complicity in Genocide.’ Sally’s political courage is rare - and it does not go unnoticed. Thank you for standing with the people of Palestine while others turn away.
In the final months of his life, Jason Arday was subject to a relentless onslaught of attacks and abuse. Jason was a human being with friends and family - but he was turned into a pawn for vicious culture wars by a cruel media industry motivated by racism and clicks. The lesson…
Amazing to see the solar eclipse. It makes you realise just how amazing our universe really is. We have to admire and respect our incredible world 🌍
I was delighted to attend the 48th birthday of Sunnyside Community Gardens in my constituency.  Sunnyside is a wonderful space for local people to share and enjoy. Thank you to the staff and volunteers for all you do. We must defend our community gardens, parks and green spaces!
If the United States is bombing Iran from British bases, we cannot pretend we are not involved. This war is totally illegal. We should have absolutely nothing to do with it whatsoever.
A privilege to speak at the Govanhill Book Festival in Glasgow to chat about Palestine, politics and poetry with the wonderful @JosieLong. She even let me read out a poem I wrote recently about a bee. Thank you Josie and thank you Glasgow!
Today marks 3 years since Imran Khan was unjustly incarcerated. He is still being denied basic human rights and remains in solitary confinement. His abominable treatment is an affront to democracy. I will continue to demand the release of all political prisoners, everywhere.
Half of England is in drought after record-breaking heatwaves, yet most of our media want to talk about the "problem" of refugees whilst giving airtime to absurd & dehumanising policies from Reform UK. Politicians who scapegoat refugees and migrants have no interest in making yo…
Shocking reports of lethal violence by Pakistani security forces against protestors in Jammu and Kashmir, in the lead-up to regional elections. This brutal suppression must end. The communications blackout must be lifted. The human rights of the people of Kashmir must be upheld.
Next week is the anniversary of Hiroshima. Today, the Prime Minister has announced more investment in weapons of mass destruction. The UK spends £12,000 every minute on nuclear weapons. Imagine if we spent that money on social care, schools and the NHS instead.
