Before I head off to do some more reading, I want to address @NewYorker magazine, which, less than a week ago, published a deplorable article—brimming with the magazine’s characteristic arrogance and its tacky prejudices regarding Latin America—predicting that Lula would be "swept away" from politics (yes, you actually used that graceless term!). Well, President Lula has just won reelection in an epic and colossal fashion in the second round of the vote! We expect an apology, or perhaps some space for the intelligentsia of the Global South to point out the flawed political analyses put forth by the intelligentsia of the United States. When all is said and done, it is the magazine’s own arrogance that has been swept away! Kisses!
