The 2026 ITUC Global Rights Index has ranked the 🇺🇸 USA among countries with “systemic violations of workers’ rights” and has placed it on its Watchlist following significant backsliding in fundamental rights. The developments highlighted include restrictions on collective bargaining for more than one million federal workers, the weakening of institutions protecting labour rights, and growing pressure on immigrant workers and trade union members. What happens in the United States matters far beyond its borders. When workers’ rights deteriorate in one of the world’s largest economies, it risks setting a dangerous precedent globally.
