The masks are coming off for the “defenders” of Brazilian democracy. After weeks of protests, rampant censorship, and escalating political detentions, a majority of Brazil’s senators have now signed a formal request to impeach Alexandre de Moraes. But Brazilian Senate President @davialcolumbre just told party leaders “Even if you have all 81 signatures, I will not put impeachment of a Supreme Court justice up for a vote.” There are 81 senators in Brazil. Alcolumbre is saying that even if every single one of them asks to impeach Moraes, he will block it anyway.cNow, the very institution empowered to hold Moraes accountable is being prevented from doing so. If even unanimity in the Senate is irrelevant, where is Brazil headed?
