Writer Muhammad Shehada responds to backlash to recent New York Times reporting by @NickKristof about pervasive sexual violence against Palestinians carried out by Israeli soldiers, prison guards and settlers. Israel and its supporters have condemned the article, but @muhammadshehad2 says the sadism described in the article is widely acknowledged and even celebrated within Israeli society. The most explosive allegation in the piece, which is corroborated by human rights groups and other outlets, is that some Palestinian detainees have been sexually assaulted with dogs. "We know that Nazi commanders were using dogs to rape Jewish victims. We know that in Chile they were also training dogs to rape victims as well," he says. "So, we see Israel is more than willing to cast doubt on the Holocaust to whitewash its genocide in Gaza, rather than admitting to their own mistake or promising even a sham investigation."
