Breaking: The Avengers of the Censorship Complex
A Brazilian NGO that portrays itself as defending the country’s “digital sovereignty” just organized a protest outside Meta’s headquarters in São Paulo demanding the company apologize for allegedly “hurting Lula’s campaign.” Two days later, the same group asked the U.S. Congress to investigate Meta’s role in the Brazilian election.
The organization was launched with funding from Pierre Omidyar’s Luminate foundation, and its website is registered under an institute that received over $3 million from George Soros’s Open Society. The same institute was behind the initiative that monitored more than 7,000 Brazilian churches and masses during the current election cycle.
Its board includes people linked to Sleeping Giants, Quid, and NetLab — groups that have previously pushed advertiser boycotts against conservative media and advocated for tighter platform regulation.
