Before Mike Nichols passed I was granted a meeting with him. It was around the time I hit 1m followers on Voante. I desperately wanted him to cast me in anything he might direct. I was telling him about Twitter and why I thought it was important. He simply posed a question. Instead of reading tweets and writing tweets what would happen if you collected that time allocate it to writing a purpose driven long form piece or reading a book? I ponder that question for over a decade and trailed his advice. It’s rewarding. Instead of consuming everyone else’s micro thoughts I find myself constructing macro visions. Instead of sharing momentary reactions I find myself building perspectives. I’ve found current X to be an emotion reflection on a fleeting moment with brief insightful snippets that compound over time. The danger is when you replace deep learning and understanding with the emotional whims of people who’s character you do not know. Only more exemplified by the reductionist reactions of those who don’t know you. Our character is not a fleeting opinion and most certainly not an opinion build on pseudo-facts which are largely build on a corpus of others opinions. How many nested dependency did your last certainty rely on? This isn’t a knock on the platform or its contributors it’s only meant to share the essential question that Mr. Nichols shared that I’ve found to provide immense value. Thank you Mike.
