Since 2022, the #AUMediaFellowship (#AUMF) has empowered 60 visionary journalists, creators, and media innovators( and counting) across Africa and the diaspora to reclaim the continent's narrative.
Why the Fellowship?
Research by Africa No Filter highlights the systemic gap in African media coverage:
• 63% of African media outlets lack correspondents in other African nations.
• 1 in 3 stories (33%) about Africa in local newsrooms are sourced from foreign outlets.
• 1 in 4 stories (25%) rely directly on foreign wire services like AFP and the BBC. • 81% of foreign coverage focuses heavily on crisis, conflict, and hard news.
The #AUMF continues to dismantle this deficit model by expanding access to AU leadership, global study tours, high-level masterclasses, and targeted story grants, empowering an ever-growing network of creators to report the true impact of hashtag#Agenda2063.
