Strong statistical systems are the foundation of effective policy and sustainable development. Across the continent, the African Union is deepening collaboration, strengthening statistical capacity, and advancing coordinated efforts to modernise Africa’s macroeconomic statistics ensuring that data systems keep pace with a rapidly evolving global economy.
At the centre of this work is the African Union Institute for Statistics -@statafric , mandated to lead the harmonisation and development of statistics across Africa. STATAFRIC supports Member States in adopting international standards, strengthening national statistical systems, and improving the quality, comparability, and accessibility of data.
It also plays a critical role in enabling evidence-based policymaking and strengthening the monitoring of progress under Agenda 2063 positioning data as a strategic tool for decision-making and ensuring that Africa’s development priorities are guided by reliable, timely, and comparable statistics, with no progress left unmeasured.
