Global Gateway projects are successful when they push ahead a green and fair economy that helps to create decent local jobs and improves the livelihoods of people in the countries of the Global South. Beyond the pure extraction of raw materials, also the processing and refinement of natural assets therefore need to gain increasing importance in the countries of origin. Investments in human development, education, health, and social infrastructure are key for a progressive and stable development. Poverty reduction, human rights and the UN Sustainable Development Goals must be at the core of Global Gateway projects.
