Grateful for the important insights into Belgian and European colonial history, which, unfortunately, shows its effects still today. The tour through Brussels’ famous neighbourhood Matongé, guided by Collectif Mémoire Coloniale et Lutte Contre les Discriminations, made it clear that public space is political. Neo-colonialist ideas still determine how we frame it and how we make use of it. A fair reappraisal and reconciliation is urgently needed.
