Consent is fundamental to sex. A woman's consent is hers to give, and hers to withdraw. It must be freely given, clearly expressed and specific. It cannot be inferred from silence, compliance under pressure or the absence of physical resistance. The question is not how successfully a woman resisted someone else's actions, but whether she freely agreed to them in the first place.
