As At #UNGA gets underway, UN Deputy High Commissioner @Dabokunda asks: How do we restore trust while managing transformation? Restoring trust requires us to stand by our commitments. Managing transformation requires human rights to guide the choices we make. The six priorities before the General Assembly span peace and sustainable development, climate resilience, artificial intelligence and the renewal of multilateralism. Each will shape people’s lives and rights in profound ways. The urgency is clear. The President of the General Assembly has pointed to backsliding on certain rights and freedoms and shrinking humanitarian space. Member States created this system and carry responsibility for sustaining it. Standing firm on the principles they have collectively agreed means giving human rights institutions the political space and resources to fulfil their mandates and turn commitments into protection for people.
