Very disturbing news from Vietnam re Gaza. How can the Vietnamese leaders have such short memories? Many of us who supported Vietnam fully against the United States urge the Vietnamese government to stop arming Israeli genocide: Dear Tariq Ali, I just want to inform you about the Government of Vietnam’s potential complicity in the Israeli genocide in Gaza. The cargo MV Kathrin 9570620, which contains 8 containers of hexogen/RDX and 60 containers of Vietnam-made TNT enroute for Israel. This cargo left Haiphong, Vietnam on 22 July 2024. It was stopped by Namibian authorities as per BBC news report from 27 August 2024 (www.bbc.com/news/articles/c20rgvqr37ro). The cargo is sailing under a Portuguese flag and is owned by a German company, Lubeca Marine Germany. But it is feared that the content of this cargo is Vietnam-made materials for possible military use by Israel in Gaza. The content was loaded in the Vietnamese port city of Haiphong. The UN’s Special-Rapporteur to the OtP today raised the alarm about this cargo of Vietnamese explosives and the possible violation of the Genocide Convention and the UNHRC Res. 55 passed on 5 April 2024 on an arms embargo on Israel. The BDS Movement has also raised the alarm about this cargo across social media. A Vietnamese military-industrial manufacturing unit, Z113, has openly bragged about its shipment of TNT to Israel since late March 2024 (photos and link attached). Pro-Palestine voices are being too controlled. I am personally so enraged and breathless at this betrayal of Vietnam’s legacy of socialism internationalism. As I wrote for the Rosa Luxemburg recently, Vietnam’s position on the Gaza genocide has been disappointingly silent and both-sideing. The government is pro-Palestine on the surface, but pro-Israel behind the scenes. No one knows how many TNT-shipments between Vietnam and Israel have been made since Oct 7.
