Why should the police who have been relatively even-handed till now, suddenly turn nasty and behave like drugged dogs? The answer seems fairly obvious to me. They received firm instructions from the Home Secretary and the Mayor of London. Of course it backfired. These sort of actions usually do, but my old comrade Chris Nineham was targeted and picked up for no reason whatsoever. Bizarre. In a curious way it's a pale reflection of what happened in Gaza yesterday, when Israeli planes and drones targeted joyous kids celebrating the temporary end of war. In London, the police having polices the dozens of demonstrationspeacefully turned nasty, as if to say: 'Enough, no more. Orders from above.' Can't one of the groveller-Left MPs (I'm thinking of J.McDonnell here) at least find this out for us.
