While one majority Black city, Gary Indiana, has been left to endure a weeks-long power outage, another majority Black city, Memphis, TN, has now been told they will be without power for nearly a week. In these Black cities, instead of the National guard being asked to assist, they are stuck being deployed in DC by President Trump as a political ploy in an attempt to show strength. As working people, when we clock in at work, we’re agreeing to the social contract of paying taxes for the greater public good. So when disasters like what’s going on in Memphis happen, our hard earned tax money will be used to ensure safety. But that isn’t the case in majority-Black cities like Memphis and Gary under the Trump administration because self-interested politicians are prioritizing enriching themselves and their corporate donors. www.actionnews5.com/2026/08/23/mlgw-city-m...
