Some concrete ideas to get the economy of the future working for the people I grew up with in Bucks County, not just for billionaires in my district.
1. National Industrial Development Bank. China is spending $1.5 trillion on building new industries. We should have a bank to invest in places like Johnstown, Warren, Milwaukee to have modern steel, ships, machine tools, chips, drones. We should finance manufacturers looking to make anything we currently import.
2. Ownership for employees. In an AI age, give companies incentive so every employee has stock. Small businesses should have incentives to give employees a share in the profits.
3. Build 1000 new trade schools and tech training centers across our nation.
4. Mobilize top 100 business leaders to make jobs and capital investments in places left out. I have done pilot programs in HBCUs, HSIs and public colleges in rural communities and factory towns with leading companies and business leaders.
5. Work for America program. Hire young people to rebuild communities and do moonshot projects in federal government. Four years of civil service like military service to rebuild the physical and social infrastructure of our nation.
6. Home by 35. If you work 7 years, you get zero downpayment and low interest loan. Same deal we gave our veterans. A real way of boosting homeownership coupled with boosting housing supply. Much better than Thatcher who privatized housing helping landlords but not significantly improving homeownership!
7. Massive investment in childcare, eldercare, and home care jobs paying $25 an hour. You can pay for it by NOT going to war in Iran! And it would save working class families money while also creating good jobs including in small towns.
I have many more ideas and happy to discuss!
