Yesterday, the Supreme Court permitted Trump to move forward with an Executive Order to restrict voters’ access to mail-in ballots. This EO gives the Department of Homeland Security the power to create "state citizenship lists" for who is eligible to vote & requires the US Postal Service to mail ballots only to those on the Trump Administration's list. The Supreme Court’s order does not resolve the legality of the administration’s proposal, and as it currently stands, voters who intend on voting in the midterm elections by mail do not need to change their plans. Still, the uncertainty that comes from a President using his power to force citizens off the voter rolls is itself voter suppression. Trump is creating chaos to make it harder for people to vote. Our Founders intended on elections being managed by the states, not a central power. Our current Supreme Court, however, has yet again caved to Trump's overreach. The Court has completely lost its moral authority as a guardian of the Constitution. We need to expand the court from 9 to 13 justices. We need to impose term limits on these justices. 18 years and you are out.
