At the General Assembly town hall on 23 July, I was asked how, five years from now, I would know if I had succeeded as Secretary-General. I replied that I would measure success by one thing: whether people stop asking, “Where is the UN?” I want to see an agile, effective organization able to respond to people’s concerns, be back at the table in conflict scenarios, prevent escalation, and mediate efforts to end violence and human suffering. That is how the Charter of the United Nations is honoured.
