Preventing conflict and building peace is central to the work of the Secretary-General. While that work advances, the consequences of war still reach people thousands of miles away. Limiting that damage is part of the same job. I have seen a war turn into a food crisis, an energy crisis and a debt crisis for countries who were never part of it. I have also seen those consequences contained when we sat down to negotiate. Creating opportunities for agreement, that's the job of the Secretary-General. #newUN
