The United Nations is not delivering on its most fundamental promise. This is why reform is at the heart of this process. For me, reform is about enabling the United Nations to be effective at the job it was created to do. That job is peace. When the last Secretary-General race took place, over 130,000 conflict deaths were recorded annually. Last year, more than 240,000 were estimated to have lost their lives. The United Nations needs to change, structurally, culturally and operationally. We must reform to deliver peace.
