Israel deserves a future built on democracy, equality and peace. Ahead of tomorrow’s elections, the Party of European Socialists (PES) stands in solidarity with The Democrats, our associated member party, and its leader, Yair Golan. In a joint letter, PES President Stefan Löfven and Secretary General Giacomo Filibeck expressed their support: “A democratic, liberal and progressive Israel, grounded in the rule of law and respect for the fundamental rights of all its citizens, is essential to the country’s future.” We share a commitment to social justice and to a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians through a two-state solution, enabling both peoples to live in peace, security and dignity. “We hope that the elections will mark a step towards renewed confidence in democratic institutions and a more just, inclusive and hopeful future for Israel and all its citizens,” they wrote.
