Remembering Yitzhak Rabin means keeping alive the hope for peace, dialogue and a future built on mutual respect. On 21–22 October, PES Secretary General @giacomofilibeck and Deputy Secretary General Saar Van Bueren visited Israel and Palestine to commemorate Rabin’s legacy, meet with @YairGolan1, leader of @DemocratsIL, and discuss the political situation ahead of the Israeli elections. In Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, the delegation paid tribute to Rabin’s commitment to peace. In Ramallah, they met with Yasser Abbas of the Palestinian Authority to discuss the situation facing Palestinians and efforts to restore peace and stability. The delegation also met with Marwan Barghouti’s wife, Fadwa, and son, Arab, to convey the solidarity of PES President Stefan Löfven and reiterate the call for his release. The path to peace must be built on dialogue, respect for international law, and the recognition of the rights, dignity and security of both Israelis and Palestinians. A two-state solution remains essential to achieving a just and lasting peace.
