As healthcare costs climb, millions of seniors may also be negotiating new challenges with Medicare Advantage, the private insurance plan that more than 30 million Americans choose as an alternative to traditional Medicare.
In some parts of the country, insurers are pulling out of markets or eliminating these plans that Americans have come to rely on.
"Insurance companies are private companies," said Dan Weissmann, "An Arm and a Leg" podcast creator and host. "They're responsible to shareholders, and they have been deciding in a lot of cases, 'These plans that we're offering, it's not going to make us enough money, so we're not going to offer it any more, or we're going to change the terms to be more advantageous to us and less advantageous to you.'"
With Medicare's annual open enrollment period now under way, Weissmann joined @GeoffRBennett to discuss how seniors are struggling to navigate these changes.
