President Donald Trump announced Thursday that Pam Bondi is stepping down as attorney general.
“Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. “Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900.”
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche confirmed on social media that he will lead the DOJ in the interim.
During her time leading the Department of Justice, Bondi has faced heavy criticism for the agency's handling of document releases related to convicted sex offenderJeffrey Epstein. The House Oversight Committee voted in March to subpoena Bondi for a closed-door, taped deposition about the Epstein files. Congressional Democrats accused Bondi, a Trump loyalist, of weaponizing the DOJ to target the president’s perceived foes, including former FBI Director James Comey and Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook, and removing dozens of career professionals because they worked on investigations into Trump’s actions.
Trump has reportedly grown frustrated with Bondi’s leadership and pace in prosecuting his enemies
