In southern Lebanon this past weekend, an Israeli strike killed three journalists and multiple paramedics.
One of the journalists killed in Southern Lebanon was Ali Hassan Shaib. The Israeli military said in a statement that it targeted him and accused him of aiding Hezbollah in various ways while working as a journalist. The IDF said that, in 2020, Shaib officially joined Hezbollah's military wing.
While the outlet Shaib worked for is owned by Hezbollah, "that does not make journalists who work with this media outlet or this TV station terrorists," said Sara Qudaa of the Committee to Protect Journalists.
She noted that the IDF did not provide evidence that Shaib was part of Hezbollah.
