The trade war between the U.S. and Canada is intensifying after negotiations broke down over the weekend. President Trump announced that tariffs on Canadian-made cars, trucks and auto parts will rise to 50% at the start of the new year, part of a broader round of 50% tariffs covering $28 billion in Canadian goods.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said his country had been preparing for a fundamental shift in its relationship with the U.S., which it no longer views as a reliable partner.
