The judgement by the Afghanistan People’s Tribunal is clear: the Taliban built a system of gender apartheid that must be named and confronted. Afghan women and girls have been saying this for years, even as the world enabled the Taliban to return to power and impose their abuses once again.
Governments must finally take action by recognizing gender apartheid as a crime against humanity and hold the Taliban accountable.
Every time I speak with Afghan girls, they have the same dreams I had when I was their age. They deserve to reclaim their futures and live with dignity. I will continue standing with them until they can live, learn, and dream freely.
