For children, going to school provides a sense of stability in the midst of chaos; teachers and friends help them cope with uncertainty and loss. I know this because I was once a child living in the middle of an armed conflict — and nothing was harder for me than having to leave school.
Despite a declared ceasefire, continued Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have displaced more than 1.5 million people. Thousands of children are out of the classroom, without access to safe, stable learning environments.
I am proud to announce that @MalalaFund recently awarded $150,000 in emergency grants to support education and recovery efforts in Lebanon, funding two local organisations:
– @femalecomms received $75,000 to provide urgent relief for displaced families, especially women and girls.
– @basmehzeitooneh received $75,000 to support recovery efforts in the Bekaa Valley, helping to reopen schools and restart learning programmes for adolescents.
Please support these organisations and Lebanon’s young people, especially girls, as they fight for their right to learn.
