I warmly congratulate the United States on the occasion of its 250th anniversary of independence. Throughout our shared history - one that has also been shaped by the invaluable contributions of the large Portuguese and Portuguese-American community - the United States has played a fundamental role in the world and in upholding the values that continue to unite us: freedom, democracy, and prosperity. Portugal, one of the first countries to recognise the independence of the United States, a founding member of NATO, and a steadfast supporter of the transatlantic community, celebrates this milestone of two and a half centuries of shared history with a forward-looking vision, grounded in the strong human, cultural, and economic ties that connect our both sides of the Atlantic. To the American people, to @POTUS, and to all Portuguese citizens and Portuguese-Americans living in the United States, I wish a Happy Independence Day. 🇵🇹🤝🇺🇸
