Viola Ford Fletcher was just seven years old when she survived the Tulsa Race Massacre. For the rest of her life she raised her family, gave back to her community, and fought for justice for Tulsa survivors and their descendants.
I was fortunate to meet Mother Fletcher and her brother, Hughes Van Ellis, in 2021 and hear their story. Today, Doug and I are thinking of her family and everyone who loved her.
We must all be inspired by Mother Fletcher's legacy, remember our history, and continue to speak the truth.
