Prof. Robert Pape warns of VIOLENT UNREST around the US midterms:
‘We have seen America lash out against the world...now we’re lashing out against each other.
That’s not exactly unprecedented. Of course, we had a civil war in the 1860s. That’s a long time ago. We’ve had other periods, say the 20s and the 60s.
But what’s special now is not that political violence is just in the fringe. Yes, that fringe is still there, but violent populism, where large parts of the American public support the use of force to hold on to power, to gain power, hold on to power, and that is special.
This is what is coming right to the fore in the midterms, and it won’t just be on the day of the vote on November 3rd.
It will be with the counting of the vote, and then the seating of the winners, because that’s when power is truly at issue.’
