I am honoured and elated at being a part of this brilliant @WomensPrize for Non-Fiction shortlist. It is incredibly moving to share a list with such extraordinary women who have written exquisite books. I am most thankful to the prize judges for appreciating Nation of Strangers, a book which laces my personal story of leaving my home with the current human condition that finds itself increasingly alienated. Despite the dark insanity of today’s world, the news has encouraged me to think positively that we are still capable of creating something beautiful, together. 🌱🌱🌱🏡 From Nation of Strangers: ‘If you ask me, my dear stranger, it is quite probable that many centuries before men invented the awkward act of shaking hands to soothe their eternal doubt of each other, women invented hugging. It must have happened a few thousand years ago, when we were deemed eternally unhomed in this world where, to be considered human, one had to be male. [ . . . ] Before it became a political terminology named ‘solidarity’, the female memory embedded in our bodies operated with the humane and intuitive knowledge of sticking together to survive.’ Many thanks to my dear publisher @canongatebooks and my dearest editor #clairereiderman and, of course, @baddabyng #womensprizefornonfiction #womenprizeshortlist #NationOfStrangers #wearehome 📷 #robertrieger
