Pleased to welcome Ambassador David Lametti, @CanadaUN Permanent Representative, to @WHO headquarters in Geneva.
We agreed on the importance of maintaining trust in science and evidence-based guidance to protect health, especially in safeguarding children from vaccine-preventable diseases.
I thanked the Ambassador for #Canada’s key role in the ongoing negotiations on the Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing (PABS) system, a core component of the historic @WHO Pandemic Agreement to be considered by the World Health Assembly in May.
I also recognized Canada’s support for the WHO Contingency Fund for Emergencies and the Pandemic Fund, which are helping make countries and communities safer in the face of humanitarian and pandemic threats.
We discussed the importance of @WHO’s wide-ranging reforms, including strengthening sustainable financing and advancing the work of WHO hubs for pandemic intelligence and pathogen sharing in Germany and Switzerland.
