It was a pleasure to recognize Doris Mollel, Executive Director of the @dorismollel Foundation, for her leadership and commitment to improving the health and well-being of mothers and newborns worldwide, especially in her home country of Tanzania. Through Doris’s tireless efforts, a specialized neonatal care unit was inaugurated last month at Kwimba District Hospital in the Mwanza Region. The unit features a “zero-separation” model for 42 infants, along with dedicated rooms for mothers and designated visiting areas for fathers. Her wide-ranging advocacy has had a lasting impact across Tanzania, leading to increased parental leave for parents of preterm infants, expanded health insurance coverage for premature babies, and the integration of prematurity care into the educational curriculum. Doris is also a champion of reproductive health and leads the Tanzania Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights Coalition. In addition, Doris plays a vital role on the global stage, advocating for every child to have a fair chance at life from their very first moments. She was instrumental in securing recognition of World Prematurity Day by the World Health Assembly last year as an official WHO annual milestone. Thank you, Doris, for the commitment, compassion, and care you show in protecting and promoting the health of women and children.
