Today, more than 90% of households have access to electricity. More than 87% have access to piped water. Between 2004 and 2025, the number of households with municipal piped water rose from 9.2 million to just under 16 million. Two-thirds of households have access to flush toilets. Through local government, the free basic services programme reaches millions of indigent households.
