Souleymane Cissé, one of the last living pioneers of African Cinema has passed away at 84 years old, days before he was expected to preside over the Jury for Feature Films at the 29th Pan African Film & Television Festival (FESPACO) in Ougadougou.
The Continent has lost one of it's most powerful visionaries of our cinematic cultural heritage. His 1987 masterpiece Yeelen helped reshape global cinema. We mourn his passing and celebrate his rich body of work and invaluable legacy. May his soul rest in peace. #SouleymaneCissé
