Israeli forces released Palestinian prisoner Majd Abu Laban after five years in detention, leaving him stranded in a remote desert area near Ramon Prison, according to local reports. Abu Laban was reportedly transported with his hands and feet shackled, before being released far from the prison gate. There are more than 8,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees from the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem held in Israeli prisons, with thousands of them detained without charge or trial. Human rights organisations report that nearly half of these detainees are held under "administrative detention," which permits indefinite imprisonment based on secret evidence without formal charges
