Israeli police are recruiting religious Jews and far-right officers to serve at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem, according to a report by Israeli daily Haaretz. The newspaper reported that recruitment calls were circulated through social media and WhatsApp groups linked to organisations that promote Jewish visits to the site. The initiative is reportedly being led by officers responsible for policing the compound and comes amid a rise in the number of Jewish visitors and extended visiting hours.
