These defamation proceedings have revealed a lot of embarrassing stuff about Bruce Lehrmann, but him telling a bunch of people he had a job lined up at ASIO and then ASIO saying they’d never even heard of him is so funny
Eric Abetz dedicated his life to securing power for himself, to keep people like me treated as criminals. To ban us raising families. He spent decades spewing hate, leading the fight against our equal rights. Thank you, Tas. Raising a glass to our nation’s future without him 🥂
Eric Abetz claiming that he lost his seat in the the senate because he is a victim of discrimination (on the basis of being a conservative) is a work of art
I suspect @smh hopes this will all blow over soon, but the number of requests I’ve received for interviews or columns from domestic & international media suggests otherwise… 🥴 @BevanShields I reckon you have two days to respond. They all have enough detail to publish.
@BevanShields Bevan, to argue that it’s inconsequential whether Wilson was dating a man or a woman is not only laughably disingenuous, it proves you’ve no understanding of the significant harm, often weaponised, of media outing or threatening to out queer people. Your own paper’s…
Emptying generations of peoples’ super into the pockets of existing homeowners will only accelerate growing inequality, inflate property prices further & bolster the insane, government-manipulated, pyramid-scheme plan for property prices to just grow & grow & grow for…
I don’t think any political party truly understands the level of rage and betrayal felt by people under 40 about the fact that half of us are in rent distress & most of us will never be able to own a home. If they did, they’d be fighting a different election campaign.
“I experienced a mob. People who would cut through any law and any process to get at the target of their judgement” …says the Attorney General who was spared a police investigation, spared an independent inquiry, kept his cabinet job while he sued the public broadcaster…
Smoking pot is not remotely a big deal, but trawling through old, personal photos of a young woman who’s known to the public bc her lived experience and advocacy against child sexual abuse and publishing them to humiliate and discredit her is deeply violating. Shame @DailyMailAU
30,000 aged care residents and staff have contracted covid in the last three months. Close to 600 died. And parliament sat til 5am playing 3D chess with Morrison’s favourite, divisive distraction: kicking trans children around as political football. The shame of it.
Women do not have to smile for the camera beside men we do not like. Grace Tame is not a public servant, a diplomat, a photo-op model or the property of the government. She’s an advocate who’s watched Morrison fail, belittle and ignore survivors all year. Why would she smile?
Now that we’ve established that 16 year kids shouldn’t drive forklifts, can we agree that 10 year old kids shouldn’t be in prison?
I took 6yo to her vaccine today, she was *terrified* before & during, then inconsolably FURIOUS after. She spent 15min observation shouting “I’m so angry there even IS COVID!!?? Why did we have to do ANY of this covid!? I didn’t WANT there to be covid!!” and she’s not wrong t…
IMPORTANT RETRACTION TO MY 2019 MEMOIR: I thought I never wanted to get gay married. I worked on the campaign for years still, nah. Then I met @katemccccartney & my entire life changed. The world rearranged itself. So, on NY Day I asked Kate to marry me and she said yes 🥰…
I think if it were possible to break grief up into pieces to share out the pain and the sickness and the horror of it, every person across this continent would offer to bear the grief of the families in Devenport tonight. Words are feeble. I ache for them.
The fact that Scott Morrison can hear the evidence presented at ICAC and think Gladys Berejiklian is fit to serve in his government is all you need to know about his respect for ethics and integrity
On a macro level, Christian Porter’s position was untenable because he took a massive sum of money to sue the ABC (and lose) and won’t reveal the secret donors. On a micro level, Christian Porter’s position was untenable bc the voters of Pearce were set to boot him out.
Porter isn’t leaving bc of “harshness of politics” - he’s had nothing but brutish protection from Morrison & cabinet who closed ranks around him when allegations were exposed + rabid cheerleading of half Murdoch press. Didn’t even face an inquiry! He can’t face voters of Pea…
According to Scott Morrison, citizens should show ID to: ▪️Vote ▪️Tweet ▪️Look at pornography ▪️ See a doctor But have their identity protected to: ▪️Fund the Attorney General’s lawsuit against the public broadcaster
Forcing social media users to identify themselves means every public servant, teacher, nurse, cop, anyone with a job with a strict HR policy on public post, etc etc etc won’t be able to participate in public discussion about politics or policy. How is this good for democracy?
Oh my god these first and second reading speeches on the religious freedoms bill is so triggering… I can’t believe the Australian parliament is hearing AGAIN why religious charities should be able to turn away LGBT couples… of all the things the government should be doing…
Sorry to bang on but for so long photos of Priya have been in detention, or screaming for her kids as they’re torn from her arms by Border Force. Here she is in her own terms, dignified, proud and so beautiful. And how special for her daughters to see their mum in a magazine ❤️
I wonder if News Corp will treat the “let’s murder the premier” protesters the same way they treated the Aboriginal women leading the “please value our lives” protests! Only time will tell !!!
Just feel like Tim Smith’s claim he didn’t realise he was twice over the limit drunk driving home would be more believable if he hadn’t spent the last 12 months shouting about how public safety rules should be ignored
One of the best things about stay-at-home orders lifting today is that for months, the only people we’ve really seen on the streets are antivaxxers or lockdown protesters. Today I see hundreds of people who are vaccinated, joyfully enjoying our achievement. We’re the majority.
Grace Tame is 30 years younger than Janet Albrechtson and has already achieved more, contributed more and taught the public more than Janet could ever dream to. The absolute shame of this patronising lecture, my god. Very embarrassing.
“Sorry Prime Minister I simply cannot disclose who secretly gave me, the attorney general, a million dollars to sue the public broadcaster because they might get ratioed on a social media website used by 6% of the country”
Wow: 3/4 of ppl who stepped up to get AstraZenecca vaccine yesterday in Vic under 40 Millennials really carrying so much of the public pandemic response: home learning, childcare while making up the bulk of the workforce, staying home to protect others, vaccinating fast ❤️
Isn’t it ✨funny✨ how the same political leaders currently crowing about kids mental health are the same folks who supported a completely needless national “vote” on whether LGBTQ people were equal to everyone else
Still can’t get over Social Services Minister Anne Ruston saying yday that when crises happen, people should expect to look after themselves and not immediately turn to “the taxpayer” for support, as if “people” are not “the taxpayer”…
Morrison warns “retrospective compliance activity” will apply to double-check on Victorian workers who access this emergency support payment. Where’s the “retrospective compliance activity” on the jobkeeper payment to massively profitable corporations??
Can we just put a bunch of nurses in charge of the vaccine rollout? Nurses are brilliant at logistics, time management, triaging care, people-centred planning, working quickly...
Imagine if ordinary people could take 30 days paid mental health leave after they committed a grave and serious breach of their employment contract #Laming
