Gf’s uncle left a horrible comment under my go fund me link For context I have a disability (TMJ is a result of one of the h and underwent a major surgery 5 days ago. For the first time in my life I decided to start a fundraiser to help me pay 2 separate bills for surgery and braces (plus a whole tone of meds post surgery) due to me growing in debt trying to pay for it all myself. I asked my gf to help me spread it which she naturally did. Last night I’m in the ER as my post op condition worsened as I got an infection and I’m crying hysterically with a fever of 40c in agonizing pain with a face of a size of a watermelon. As I got my feeling better I checked her FB page to see such comment. What are your thoughts. Why should I be punished for being sick? How is being in debt due to medical issues a norm now? P.S. the like his comment has came from my gf grandmother :) Edit to add some more context Honestly the surgery process was a nightmare on its own. I waited 2 years to see my surgeon. Initially I was told that I’d have to pay $500 for a 15 minute consultation with him. He ended up waiving it because the surgery is not cosmetic at all and is medically needed as my condition messed up my joints really bad. Then my surgeon said he’d wave the surgery fees outside of a $1600 fee that he needs for some reason (I have it in my go fund) but his secretary and mount Sinai hospital stuff told me my surgery would cost me $15k which gave me immense trauma and fear. They said these fees are NEVER waived. All of this was done through email so I have receipts. Then the surgeon had to step in again and waived the fee because he considered the surgery high risk where there’s a possibility I’ll need a second surgery if I relapse (chances of that are 50% due to my disability). Then he wanted me to partner with his ortho that charges $500 for 40 minute Consultation and my braces were gonna cost $20k 🫠. So I found my own, less experienced for $10k. Even though initially she promised she would only charge me 6k. And I said I tired EVERYTHING. I called EVERYONE and EVERYWHERE and I didn’t get a single grant to lower that fee. And as I mentioned in my go fund me, as a teen I was granted money to pay for all of this but my ortho misused it and got fired and the fund was gone… And unrelated cherry on top for me was OSAP grant cuts as I just applied for masters and had to put literally all of my already minimal savings into initial deposit so that I can get a master and get a job in Ontario. That’s why his comment hurt so much. I’ve been trying. And this was my last resort.
