I am deeply saddened by the reported loss of 16 lives in an accident near Touwsrivier in the Western Cape that involved a bus carrying 73 people, 20 of whom were injured. Along with a crash near Beitbridge where a bus driver died and passengers en route to Zimbabwe were injured, the Western Cape incident is a tragic reminder for all of us to exercise the greatest caution on our roads. I feel for the families who have lost loved ones in these incidents and I pray for a speedy recovery for the injured persons. It is our responsibility as pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, passenger and cargo drivers, and transport owners to protect lives and ensure that our roads remain lifelines that connect us socially and economically, and not so-called death traps - all of which depends on our behaviour. Let’s Arrive Alive, South Africa.
