Allegations of sexual misconduct were leveled against Thiago Ávila, a senior Brazilian activist and member of the steering committee for the Global Sumud Flotilla, a group supported by Greta Thunberg.
The controversy surfaced after the advocacy group Heart of Palestine accused Ávila of having sexual relationships with three volunteers while at sea, characterizing the behavior as an abuse of power.
Ávila has denied the claims, calling them a "smear campaign" and stating the relationships were strictly with comrades.
Greta Thunberg, who had previously stepped down from a leadership role due to internal disagreements, has not issued a public comment on the matter.
Ávila and another flotilla leader, Saif Abu Keshek, were arrested by Israeli forces after their vessel was intercepted near Crete. While Ávila was detained on suspicion of "illegal activity," Israeli officials identified Abu Keshek as a member of the Hamas Front organization.
